In the past, eyeglass lenses were made of glass, but these days most lenses are made of plastic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is due in part to the use of vacuum deposition technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this article, we would like to explain about spectacle lenses and vacuums.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/div>\n\n\n\n

The lenses of spectacles are processed in various ways.<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

At first glance, the lenses of spectacles appear to be just a piece of plastic, but they are made up of several thin, invisible layers to prevent reflections, to prevent the lenses from being scratched, to block UV rays and to prevent fogging, etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An anti-reflective coating is a film that is made by alternating layers of substances with several different refractive indices, like strata, to reduce the reflectance through interference of light.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to spectacle lenses, they are also used in computer monitors and camera lenses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ski glasses and sunglasses have a mirror-like coating to prevent the wearer’s eyes from being seen, but this is also done by evaporation in a vacuum to which a thin film is added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is vacuum deposition?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Boiling water creates steam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When an object is placed on top of boiling water, the steam will cause water droplets to form.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For example, the lenses of spectacles would fog up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This occurs when the liquid water turns into a gas (vapor) called steam, resulting in water droplets on the lens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the same way, a thin film is deposited by heating and evaporating the substance to be made into a film.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The actual process involves applying a beam to a limb substance (e.g. a metal) in a film under vacuum to evaporate it into a gas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These membranes are only a few nanometers thin!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1nm (nanometer) is the length of one of the 1 mm (millimeter) divided into 1000 equal parts, one of which is further divided into 1000 equal parts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If the diameter of the Earth was 1 m, 1 nm (nanometer) corresponds to the size of a penny coin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thin films, invisible to the naked eye, can be deposited by vacuum evaporation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
