The word nickel is derived from the Saxon word \u2018kupfernickel\u2019 meaning \u2018devil’s copper\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was called devil’s copper because it resembled copper ore but could not be smelted to yield copper, and the element that could be extracted from devil’s copper was called \u2018nickel\u2019. (kupfer means copper).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As for the discovery, it was discovered and named by Swedish mineralogist Axel Fredrik Krohnstedt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
