There are different types of ultraviolet radiation! Ultraviolet rays play a major role in many aspects of our lives.

Sunburn is a concern when the sun is strong.

In summer, some people take UV protection.

Although ultraviolet rays have a rather bad image, they are used in various scenes in our daily lives.

There are different types of ultraviolet radiation.

Ultraviolet radiation can be divided into three main categories according to wavelength (the length of one wave).

near-ultraviolet rays…What we call UV.

UV-A… causes loss of elasticity and accelerated ageing of the skin, while activating cellular functions.

UV-B…causes sunburn. Produces vitamin D.

UV-C … highly bactericidal and destructive to living organisms, but does not normally reach the ground surface.

Far ultraviolet (vacuum ultraviolet)

It can only travel in a vacuum and therefore does not reach the surface of the earth.

Extreme ultraviolet

Ultraviolet radiation similar to X-rays.

In our daily lives, we are greatly affected by near-ultraviolet radiation that reaches the earth’s surface.

Although UV radiation has a bad reputation, it is used in a wide range of fields.

Use of ultraviolet radiation

  • black light

In addition to appraising jewelry, ultraviolet light is also used to prevent passport counterfeiting through the use of special inks.

  • Fluorescent lamp
  • Sterilization
  • pest control
  • food processing

On an industrial scale, our photoemission electron microscopes can visualize the electronic state of a sample’s surface by irradiating it with a variety of ultraviolet rays.

Ultraviolet radiation also plays an important role in research and development.
