Vacuum has brought a miracle to plastic bottles! Carbon is the secret behind the easy drinking of beverages in plastic bottles!

Plastic bottles make it easy to drink soft drinks anytime, anywhere.

This is because the thin film created on the inside of the PET bottle using vacuum technology prevents the drink from oxidizing.

The relationship between vacuum and plastic bottles is explained in simple terms.

Cans and glass bottles used to be the norm.

Although plastic bottles were introduced to the market in the 1980s, cans and glass bottles were the mainstay for carbonated drinks such as cola and cider.

The reason why we did not use plastic bottles at that time, despite the disadvantages of glass bottles, which are heavy and breakable, is that plastic bottles are prone to carbonation leakage.

In addition, PET bottles at that time were not suitable for tea and wine because their contents would be oxidized through oxygen.

Today, however, we rarely see Coke in glass bottles, and tea and wine in PET bottle is now commonplace.

This is because it is now possible to create a thin film inside the plastic bottle.

The secret is a thin film of carbon.

Previous plastic bottles were prone to air infiltration and carbonation and water run-off, but a thin film of carbon on the inside of the bottle overcame these shortcomings.

The carbon film is made of acetylene gas, which is made up of carbon and hydrogen, in a plasma state under vacuum.

As you know, pencil lead and diamonds are made of carbon, but the carbon film on the inside of a plastic bottle is 10 to 40 nanometers thin.

Although we cannot see them with the naked eye, they play a major role in making our lives more convenient.

If you see carbonated drinks, tea or wine in plastic bottles in shops and other places, try feeling the vacuum.

Vacuum is an essential part of our lives.

We provide sputtering equipment that produces films under vacuum conditions.
